Michael McLaughlin, MDiv
Western Regional Director
Michael McLaughlin was born and raised on the "left" coast in Seattle, Washington, never living more than 90 miles from the Pacific Ocean. He graduated from Biola University in 1975, did his graduate work at Western Seminary in Portland, earning a Masters of Divinity in 1979 and his ordination in 1985.
Ministry: In the 1970s, he served as youth director in two churches and as an assistant club leader for Young Life. In the early 1980s, he helped plant Grace Community Church in Gresham, Oregon. Concurrently with CMDA, he has served as the preaching pastor in three churches in the Portland area.
CMDA: In 1983, he met Leonard Ritzmann, MD, past president of CMDA, who "turned my interview into his interview as he challenged me to join the CMDA staff as the Northwest Director." Over time, his responsibilities grew from two to fifteen western states. In addition to his role as Western Regional Director, he served as the Director of Campus and Community Ministries from 2002-2005 and 2009-2010.
He and Linda were married in 1974. Their children, son Andrew and his wife Amanda, and children Toby (2008) and Nora (2011) live in Portland and their daughter Amy and her husband Brett and children Taylor (2009) and Wyatt (2011) live in Eugene, OR.
