We are the fifth gospel.
Have you ever considered that as we live our lives we are ambassadors for Jesus, as it says in 2 Corinthians 5:20?
People who are not Christians see us as representing Jesus. One of the top reasons non-believers don’t believe in Jesus is because we appear to be hypocrites. Our words do not match our actions.
They may not read the Bible or the four Gospels, so all they have to go by is what they see by our lives. We are the fifth gospel.
Do we have perfect lives? Of course not, just ask those around who know us.
So what should we do?
Live our lives as our Lord asks us to live. Ask for His help and the help of others to hold us accountable. The well-known Christians who are in the spotlight do so, if they want to avoid succumbing to temptation.
Ask for forgiveness as needed.
We are forgiven by God but need to keep working at improving—not for forgiveness, but because we are grateful for what He did for us and out of our love for Him.
Our behavior represents Jesus. Why not be as consistent as possible to live the life that God wants us to live? After all, it is for our benefit.
