Healthcare for the Poor
As Christians, we are called by Jesus to care for the poor. It says in Matthew 25:37-40, "Then the righteous will answer him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?’ And the King will answer them, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me'" (ESV). Followers of Christ have a moral obligation to the poor — an obligation that is linked to the very core of who we are in Christ.
As Christian healthcare professionals, we share the added professional responsibility to provide healthcare for the poor in our community, our region and around our world. CMDA collaborates with Christian Community Health Fellowship in providing healthcare for the poor in the U.S. And our various mission outreaches provide care for the poor in a variety of ways all around the world.
But what is being done in our local and national governments through legislation and other programs to help make sure that the poor are not forgotten? If you're looking to get involved in this initiative, CMDA provides the latest information on the legislative, ethical and medical aspects of healthcare for the poor.
